Why your camera roll beats a downloaded deck

A downloaded flashcard deck was built for someone else's life. It has words you'll never use next to words you needed on day one, in no particular order, with no connection to anything around you. Memory research consistently shows that self-generated content — things you noticed, chose, and photographed yourself — is recalled better than material handed to you fully formed.

What makes a good flashcard photo

You don't need studio conditions. A single object, decent light, and a background that isn't total chaos is enough — the app cuts the object out anyway, so a busy background matters less than you'd think. What matters more is variety: the same word photographed in different contexts (your cup at home, a cup at a café) builds a sturdier memory than one photo reviewed over and over.

Going deeper than a flat word-and-picture card
